Field Guide to the Enneagram

This is for you if you want to use the Enneagram personality archetypes to help you understand, connect with, and support those you love and lead.

Introduction to the Enneagram

An overview of 9 Enneagram types and how this archetypal framework can help you live and lead with purpose.

an overview of the enneagram archetypes

The Enneagram is a framework in human psychology and personality theory, based on the idea that each person has a unique, inherent "essence" that shapes their worldview and self-perception.

The nine Enneagram types represent distinct perspectives, influencing how we think, feel, and interact with ourselves and others. At its core, the Enneagram is a powerful tool for understanding personality and uncovering the “why” behind our behaviors. Each type offers insights into motivation, strengths, challenges, communication styles, decision-making, and conflict resolution.

When explored deeply, the Enneagram becomes more than a personality tool—it’s a transformative roadmap to support growth in both your personal and professional life.

What does your Enneagram type truly represent?

Our Enneagram type reflects our unconscious, default approach to life. By identifying our unique type, we gain insight into the personal lens through which we view the world—understanding how it both supports and may limit us.

Rather than operating on old, automatic patterns, discovering our type allows us to approach life, work, and relationships with greater awareness. Your Enneagram archetype isn’t your true essence; it’s a coping strategy developed early on to secure safety, connection, and support.

While this approach has been valuable for navigating challenges, it often becomes a habitual pattern over time rather than an adaptive tool. As these patterns become deeply ingrained, they can feel inseparable from our identity, making it challenging to change. We may even mistake it as "just who we are." Because these patterns are core to our Enneagram archetype, releasing them requires self-reflection and intentional effort.

The goal over time is to become less driven by automatic conditioning, less reactive to type-based triggers, and more purposeful and steady in our responses. This journey lies at the core of developing emotional intelligence.
